Welcome to Southern Standard Nannies
Private Educator

More and more families are homeschooling- and we're helping hire the private educators who make it possible.

What is a private educator and why would this be a solution for my family?

Is your teenager struggling within the rigid structures of traditional school schedules and curriculums? Do you have concerns about safety when it comes to sending your child to a school to learn?

Before we dive into the details: private educators through our agency typically range from $30-50 per hour, plus our placement fee. This investment reflects the expertise of thoroughly vetted professionals with backgrounds in education who bring unique strengths to your family. These rates reflect the exceptional candidates we present - individuals with glowing references who often bring additional skills like:

★ Fluency in multiple languages
★ Years of experience with homeschooling or pod learning
★ Specialized training in child development
★ Expertise within multiple age groups
★ Advanced education or certifications
★ Strong track records of long-term family relationships

Importantly, these competitive rates lead to stronger, longer-lasting placements. Private educators require a health stipend (health insurance depending on how you set this up), 401 matching, and all the benefits offered to other household staff.

Our Process

We're with you every step of the way

Getting to Know Your Family

It's all about getting to know YOU and your UNIQUE family and world.
Every great match starts with understanding your family’s world. First, you’ll fill out our family application— your initial leap into sharing your world with our team. We want to understand what you're looking before we're on our consultation call with you. From there, we'll send you an email with more details and a link to schedule a call with Laura or Austin!

Once we're aligned, we move into a deeper, 90-minute discovery session with our extensive team where we learn: your routines, values, parenting style, and hopes for the ideal caregiver. We may talk a little about your childhood. We may talk a little about the childhood you're aiming to create for your little ones.

Together, we’ll craft a personalized job description that reflects exactly what your family needs to thrive.

The Matching & Hiring Journey

Our wheels begin to turn...
With your family’s story at the center, we begin reaching out to trusted professionals who align beautifully with your needs. We curate a shortlist of candidates who not only meet your criteria, but who also feel right for your home’s energy and rhythm. You’ll receive our comprehensive interview guide to support meaningful conversations with each candidate.

Your interviewing process happens in three steps: a virtual interview (we'll handle the setup for this), an in-person interview at your home, and then a dinner you'll have with your finalist. This is a big relationship and we want to make sure things feel like a GREAT fit before you make an offer. After an offer is made, we want you to have a trial with the candidate you've chosen. If all goes well- viola! Success!

When you’re ready, we provide polished hiring templates to help you craft that perfect offer. And once your private educator joins your team, our relationship doesn’t end— we stay connected, offering ongoing support long after the match is made (we have clients who have been in our network for over a decade)!

Can Southern Standard Nannies help us find a private educator with an extensive background in homeschooling?

Absolutely! We know all the best ones and we're more than happy to list your job opening in a way that incorporates any specific qualifications you need—whether that's a teaching certification, mastery of particular curricula like Classical Conversations, Montessori, or Charlotte Mason, experience facilitating project-based or self-directed learning, expertise in advanced STEM subjects, fluency in foreign languages, or specialized training in gifted education or learning differences. A lot of our homeschooling families are looking for someone who has done JUST THAT- homeschooling!

Having placed private educators with some of Nashville's most discerning families, we understand that homeschooling at this level is highly personalized. Many of our clients blend multiple approaches- perhaps Singapore Math paired with a Reggio-inspired humanities curriculum, or Classical methodology enhanced with coding and entrepreneurial projects. We'll work closely with you to articulate exactly what your family's educational philosophy looks like and identify candidates who not only meet your academic requirements but truly align with your values and vision for your children's learning journey.

We've guided numerous families through this process and know how to attract exceptional educators who can create the rigorous, individualized experience your children deserve.

Is Southern Standard Nannies able to accomodate short-term placements?

Absolutely! Our firm is able to work with your family on almost any request. Whether you need coverage during a transition period, support for a specific semester or unit of study, or interim care while you search for a permanent educator, we have solutions. We maintain a dedicated network of experienced educators who specialize in short-term placements and can step in to provide continuity for your children's learning. We also work with talented professionals who specifically prefer project-based or shorter commitment positions, giving you access to exceptional expertise even for temporary needs.
