Welcome to Southern Standard Nannies
Nanny Relief Fund

When you see a gap in your industry, you don't just fill it. You fund it.

How are we giving back to the community we care the most about?

In late March 2020, as COVID-19 devastated the nanny industry, Rachael L. Lubin took action- donating her Monday paycheck and rallying others to do the same. What started as peer-to-peer giving quickly evolved into something bigger as nannies across the country faced unprecedented job loss and financial crisis.

Austin Macfarlane, our CEO, immediately recognized the urgent need for organized, sustainable support. Within 48 hours of connecting with Rachael, Austin assembled a powerhouse team of industry leaders, pro bono attorneys, financial advisors, and branding specialists to transform a grassroots effort into a legitimate nonprofit organization.

The Nanny Relief Fund was born from that urgency—and it's become the backbone of the industry in the United States.

Austin continues to serve as Treasurer of The Nanny Relief Fund, working alongside fellow board member Carrie Bland- our Senior Marketing Manager and the social media voice of NRF- and other internationally recognized industry leaders to ensure nannies have access to emergency financial assistance during times of crisis. Both Austin and Carrie are prominent faces in the global nanny community, advocating tirelessly for the professionals who perform this incredible work and service. What began as a pandemic response has become a permanent safety net for the caregivers who support families every single day.

Southern Standard Nannies is a proud recurring donor and supporter of NRF, because we believe that supporting our industry means more than placing great caregivers- it means protecting them when they need it most.

Please consider donating to the fund today. Your contributions go directly into the hands of nannies facing financial emergencies.

The financial challenges nannies encounter stem from both the structure of domestic work and unexpected life circumstances:

Sudden Loss of Income
Nannies may unexpectedly lose their jobs due to changes in their employers' circumstances, such as relocation, financial difficulties, or changes in family dynamics.
Unsafe Working Conditions
Nannies might face requests to work in environments that don't adhere to safety standards or personal comfort levels.
Work-Life Balance Challenges
Nannies often struggle to balance their professional responsibilities with personal commitments, including caring for their own children or family members.
Living Arrangement Conflicts
Nannies with roommates or family members may face difficulties balancing the safety and health needs of their living situation with their employers' requirements.
Legal and Ethical Dilemmas
Nannies are sometimes placed in situations where they must choose between their job and adhering to legal or ethical standards.
Restrictions on Personal Life
Some nannies face demands to restrict their personal activities or social interactions to meet employers' expectations, which can be more stringent than what the employers themselves follow.
Health Risks and Lack of Support
Nannies risk exposure to illnesses in the workplace and may lack support or job security if they become ill.
Financial Hardships
Nannies often face financial burdens like managing rent, medical bills, car maintenance, or unexpected expenses due to life events.
Employment Stability
The nature of nanny work can be unstable, with nannies experiencing job insecurity due to various factors such as economic downturns, changes in employer preferences, or relocation.
Emotional and Mental Stress
The demanding nature of nanny work, coupled with personal and professional challenges, can lead to significant emotional and mental stress.
Since its launch in March 2020, The Nanny Relief Fund has raised and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to nannies facing financial emergencies. This wasn't built by one person or one company- it was built by an entire industry coming together. Nannies, families, agencies, and payroll companies have all contributed, proving that our community doesn't just talk about supporting caregivers- we actually do it.
